Al is originally from Northern Illinois but has called Kansas City home for over 35 years. Al and his brothers got the BBQ bug in 1990, while guests to what the “old timers” in the Kansas City BBQ Society called Spring Training. The boys cooked their first contest in 1991. The following 30 years of cooking provided amazing memories including cooking for John Madden, garnering a chapter in his cookbook “Ultimate Tailgating”.

Al eventually made his passion for BBQ his career and can expertly cook up a storm on stick burners, pellet cookers, kettles, and ceramics. His experience and expertise make him a great resource for his BBQ grill and smoker customers. He has even taught a class or two for those that are eager to learn, and is excited to assist the amazing team at Proud Souls BBQ & Provisions!

In his downtime, you’ll find Al hanging out at the lake and testing new recipes on his friends and family including three rambunctious grandkids all crazy for BBQ. His spare time is also spent in a community garden as he strives to perfect his tomatoes and peppers!
